It's time to let the genie out of the bottle.
Tony Rinaudo presents this good news story for a deforested and degraded world - it's all about Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), something that can be implemented relatively quickly with a low budget and have a great impact. FMNR has big implications for income generation, Disaster Risk Reduction, reducing proness to famine, conflict reduction, land and forest restoration, food security, climate change adaptation and mitigation... amongst other things.
We're excited to share the practice of FMNR - if you wish to download the clip, visit http://keepvid.com/ and use the YouTube permalink for this clip to download it.

Anyone interested in this topic should also search Allan Savory of Holistic Management, and Geoff Lawton 'Greening the Desert' with permaculture techniques developed mostly by Bill Mollison. In the USA, Greg Judy and Joel Salatin are among those who have regenerated depleted land using planned grazing by livestock. The one underlying themes: regenerative agriculture by working with nature, not battling or using it up as though it does not matter.

Shame the right-wing sheeple would see this country sapped dry of resources and the wildlife extinguished just as long as they have more money in the bank than their neighbour. They would sooner irrationally and irresponsibly turn on a governing power (as they are currently doing), and accuse them of not taking the necessary steps to prevent such catastrophe, than take the initiative to prevent it themselves. Rabid, unsustainable deforestation is being slowed, will be slowed, and must be slowed.

Those trees will also attract birds who will help with insect control, and also when they defecate they will help fertilize the ground.

Like the old saying goes. Give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach how to fish he will eat for a lifetime.

In the end the underground water table will start to rise due to the more shade on the land.

Will be keeping an eye Niger over the coming years.

The only down side will be from other countries bordering with Niger that have not followed suit and have excess people flocking to the land because of the work done. Hope it goes well though.
