Lake Park Poetry Slam: Coming Out

My beloved friend Mike's poem performed at our school poetry slam. It brought tears to my eyes.
Here's the poem:
I used to lie to all the time
Not to anyone except myself
In that time I made "friends"
The weren't mine
They all left
When I made that BIG mistake
I turned to the moon and the sun
In all the empty tries
To fill the gap inside
I fell.
In my darkest despair
I found God
But also a not-so-good friend
He left within a year
He took the year I met God away
But God stayed with me when he left
There are days when I'm so done
With life— With school
With friends
I want to be hurt again
To feel the emptiness
To be in that void again
So I can disappear
Would anyone care?
I gotta say it
I have to let it out
In my heart
I've been lying and hiding for too long
I want to show myself
I want to know that I'm here
That I have a voice
That wants to be heard
I want to be myself but it's the hardest thing to do
When I'm not even here for me
And there are days I feel like dying
From my own hands gripped
Upon my bleeding throat
To shut me up
To keep my voice quite
But not tonight
Tonight And here after
I left it all out my demons
From me
To tell you who I really am
I'm gay and queer and I'm proud to say
That if you don't like it
Go away!
For I'm here to stay no matter what
I've said or what I did
I'm still proud to say
I am gay and I'm here to stay.
