No, it's not about grasping it. Of course the principle is surprisingly simple. My point was, that I claim that nobody could sculpture such a huge complex structure with such a perfection in the macro and micro scale. Leandro said "how in the world can someone do this" and in the way I interpreted his question I wanted to say that no human can actually do it by hand. At least not in a human lifetime.

I don't see why you couldn't grasp a fractal. As you said, the rules are usually fairly simple. Anything you want to know about the fractal can be derived from those rules. You will however never be able to “see” the whole thing. Then again, neither will the computer.

Nobody can, it's entirely computer generated. The point of fractals is that they have some set of simple rules from which infinite complexity can emerge. Probably that is a very fundamental principal in nature.

I know I could never grasp any of this, but, how in the world can someone do this?

I think once we as a species hit the 'technological singularity', and a computer is able to design a better version of itself, and that computer designs an even better computer, etc, etc, I believe it may look something like this; a fractal design for a giant space computer.

It'd be cool to have a Descent-like game set in an environment like this.
