Bob built this EZ Rizer in 1980 and made the first flight on Jan 1, 1981 witnessed by John Story and Bob Jones in Krum, Texas. It is more fun per flying hour than anything I know of at 1 gallon/hour.
It is so great to see the Easy Riser still getting attention. I've built two and restored several; the one I have now I built in 1979 and still have, unflown, in its custom weatherproof box/trailer. I'll probably never fly it now that I'm 75...its available. The power is a McCulloch 101D with reduction for 42 inch Prop.
I have a lot of the earliest hang gliding publications too
If memory serves, the glide ratio is 11:1. It's been awhile. My ex (Gordon Cross) built a Riser in the fall/winter of 1977 (McCollaugh powered). He made his first actual powered flight in late April 1978. The video posted by rdawson55 (fellow Riser pilot) was taken on a Live at Five spot-Channel 13 Houston with David Glodt reporting and Frank (?) cameraman.
How absolutely great !!! I spent many beautiful evenings chasing my friend in his matching "Easy" across farm fields in Western Kentucky. Easily the best and most fun flying ever...even if the screaming little Chrysler/West Bend engine would occasionally just stop, and make me carry my flying machine back to it's home !!!
I remember back when I was little watching "Fly Away Home' and Jeff Daniel's character flying one of these. Sure brings back memories and brings up my desire to fly. Thanks for sharing!
BTW, could you give me the name of the song you used? Did you make it up?
I'm building a Sky Pup ultralight and have started a video builders log on Youtube. If anyone is interested in affordable flying the Sky Pup is a professionally designed ultralight that's made from foam and wood. My channel is skypupbuilder, flying should be fun and cheap!
