fastmhz- i would slot the steel tube around the CG. you obviously know what eddy currents can do... use wadding on the water cannon, and do you have an approximate mass on the box you used on the can crusher? I'm sure you are loosing a lot of energy with the long, twisted leads on the crusher too...

I watched the thermal water gun and saw the problem: the steam went around the projectile. Still Amazing concept
I have attempted a small version with 20 disposable , camera caps and added wadding, it works well, but the em from firing messes up my web cam, so sadly, I will not be able to post a video

i also posted this on anther vid...i am trying to make a small coilgun... using 8-9 photo caps... i cant figure out how to charge it...got any suggestions...i was thinking hooking up the caps with negative all on one side of some roofing... and then hooking the roofing staples up to a cap(- to -) that i havent removed from... and then how to fire it... can i just use one end of the coil hooked up to the caps and the other up to a momentary switch?

the tube is very long in the coilgun, it shrinks power!!

yup.....just PVC water line, because that's what I had laying around.
