Thanks RabelaisPanurge, this was wonderful. Sounds a bit like a hommage to Gustav Mahlers "Das lied von der erde" (Der Abschied)

I read somewhere that Kurosawa asked Toru Takemitsu to compose something like Mahler's piece. And it is obious that he was inspired by "Das lied von der erde".

Eerrie...Haunting...Beautiful...Moving...Gripping...so many words that describe this piece. Thank you for posting. I just wish I can find the soundtrack to this favorite film of mine.

The part at 2:03 always gets to me; that's when Hidetora walks in on his concubines committing mutual suicide. Then the other in the corner weeps with the knife in her hand and he leaves...Lord, it's heartbreaking.

I swear there was elements of this music that Hans Zimmer borrowed from for The Last Samurai.. Like those really harsh strings.

And let's not forget the masterful acting by Tatsuya Nakadai. His portrayal was so great it made me cry by the end, only three movies have had that effect on me. And no, it doesn't leave your head alone.

visually this was probably the most amazing film ive ever seen. the cinematography, set design, costumes are all just brilliant especially the cinematography. combined with kurosawa's immaculate directing and this score it becomes one of those movies that sticks around inside of your brain for the rest of your life
