Tommy Edison demonstrates whether or not a new SONY DVD player is accessible for someone is visually impaired.

Tommy's DVD player was nearly 10 years old, so he decided to purchase a brand new SONY DVD upscaling player (model number DVP-SR500H) to see if it would be more accessible in the year 2011. Does the DVD player come with Braille instructions on how to use the remote control? How long does it take for Tommy to start playing the movie?

Note: This was filmed using a standard DVD and not a DVD with Audio Description. This test was performed to test the DVD player, not the DVD.

  • why should a blind guy have a DVD-player? he can't see any of the movie...

  • @matje313 I can follow the story of most movies through music and dialogue. I also watch TV. It's similar to why they have closed captioning... so that people who are deaf can enjoy the movie. Google "audio description" for more info. Thanks for watching.

  • your awesome i wish your videos were longer though

  • If one is able to overcome all the challenges you face in life, one has overcome everything. If you can rise up to the challenges that blindness creates, there's pretty much nothing in this world which can defeat you. You are a great victor! Such a truly amazing and admirable spirit!

  • I think they should put Braille on everything!

  • How did he hook it up?

  • I tell people that if you're born blind, it's like not being able to fly. I've never been able to fly, so I don't miss it. With all due respect, people with sight miss much more than they are aware of. I went with my aunt to the store once to get some bread. I said, "I thought you were getting bread." when she affirmed that, I said, 'Then why are we heading for the produce?" She was blown away. So, blindness is more a perspective than a disability, much more.

  • There is more than one way to see. You don't have to have sight to see. It's a little sad to me, how limited some people are in their perspective. If a blind person shouldn't say "See" or "Watch, sighted people shouldn't say "feel" or "hear."

  • First 5 seconds of the video: blind guy with a knife.

    Best

    Series

    EVER!

  • Haha, the film just got 10 minutes longer, nice one

  • I love how once Tommy gets the movie playing he says "oh look!" So Tommy can see. I am sure Tommy is blind. I thought that was funniest part. Just found these will be watching a few more later today.

  • @spanpinki yeah prorbably.. that's what i was thinking
