Beautiful sounds, man!
I also use a Variax and I'm looking for a way to play into a music notation program via midi WITHOUT spending a fortune.
Does the optical pickup come withe the Photon unit?
Any advice? I was looking at the Sonuus no pickup convertor (mono is ok) but it won't accept Variax input.

It's not easy. I have found that a lot of basic guitar-playing mechanics translate over but the music is very different. Developing the bending or "meend" technique is very challenging and I have a long way to go there, but that's what makes the sitar such a wonderful instrument so I keep plugging away.
