Came across this derelict WWII bunker near St Marthas Church Guildford - it was built 70 years ago when a German invasion of southern England seemed immanent - it has commanding views over the countryside below. There are many such bunkers tucked away in the Surrey Hills.

they were part of a network to defend strategic points - there is one next to a castle in kent at a river crossing with large field of fire across open fields.
