@Prior23 i never said it was the only effecient way - but it is the most effecient.

We are not like a pencil. Our centre mass and appendages (arms and legs) create additional surface area that create drag at terminal speed. Head down is the most effecient because the force of the wind when in a head up (standing) is blowing our arms and legs up and away from where they need to be (i.e. down and in the air flow).

Have you ever made a skydive? It's quite different from the pencil analogy used

@krosfyah We are more like a pencil, if you throw a pencil in the air it has no particular way it will fall, standing straight up in a skydive turns our arms into the stabilizers so head down is not the only efficient way to fall.

@Prior23 image a shuttlecock in badminton. When you throw it into the air, the dense mass centre falls to the ground, and the feathered element falls behind, stablising it. Our legs act as stablisers, or "wings" more specifically, and our body, neck and head forms a centre mass. It makes for a more effecient position as we are under the pull of gravity, so it's basically similar to being a human shuttlecock in terms of effecient body positioning
