The word you are looking for is "allowed" not aloud.
It speaks volumes for the rest of your mumbo jumbo comment.
If you actually bothered to read some science and understood the rigour with which claims are examined then you would see a much more fascinating and revealing story, than the BS conspiracy and anti intellectual drivel which takes the place of knowledge in your brain.
newscientist website and others like it are very accessible, most articles can be viewed for free.

The sun "aligning" to the centre of the galaxy is just a LINE OF SIGHT effect, it doesn't actually DO ANYTHING.
Here's a simple analogy - I could walk around a tree in my garden and make it "align" with some distant mountains. The 3 objects would be "aligned" (me , the tree, the mountain). But neither me nor the tree would be any closer, or more affected by, those distant mountains than at any other time in my "orbit" around the tree. The same applies to Earth - Sun - Centre of Galaxy.

This 26,000 year cycle is actually 25,920 years long (I erred in typing 25,930 below).
The 12 constellations that replace each other every 2,160 years as the "ruling" constellation can be identified from anywhere at the equator but the Greeks and Mayans used different names (of course).

I am not sure what SMP1717 is referring to (1896) but I suspect he is talking about the Carrington solar flare incident which shorted out telegraph wires and caused some fires due to the type of liquid batteries used then. Today it would have far more consequences (satellites and so on) but this has nothing to do with Precession.

The reversal of the magnetic poles occurs when the solar system rises above or falls below the galactic plane. I am not sure how this corresponds to Precession but I am sure some scientist has worked out the cycle. Another interesting fact about Precession is that it drives climate change (because the wobble changes the tilt of the axis which gives us summer and winter) over long periods of time.

Precession of the Equinoxes.
The stars appear to "fall back" 1 degree in 72 years (25,930 in total).
The Greeks divided this cycle (caused by the wobble of the earth's axis or axial rotation) in 12 Ages. The next cycle begins on December 21, 2012 as we enter the "Age of Aquarius". Each age is 2,160 years long (we are currently in the Age of Pisces). Please note the Precession is the reverse of the Astrological calendar or Zodiac. Hence the term Precession not Procession.
No big deal.

the same god damn alignment happened in 1896, nothing happened then, these people r full of shit. the maya also believed the galaxy was a giant turtle in a pond held up by multi colored trees. now that sounds convincing.

@ferrett78 Well, yes, accuracy?.. The Sun has been in the dark section of the MW at solstice for 10 years now, and will be for another 10. Is the exact centering on the 2012 solstice? 'Depends upon how you see the dark section. The Mayan would have killed for our knowledge of the sky and our understandings of the dark sections. It's pathetic that people salivate over silly old stories from primitive-minded groups instead of reading readily available modern information.
its not goin to happen lol

2012 may be a big nothing. But the heavenly bodies are projected to be in alignment. Heavenly bodies do effect our weather and we have recently discovered a black hole in the middle of the Milky Way. I expect it to be a big nothing too. But it could be the rapture or crazy weather.
