On June 18, 2009 NASA launched the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite to the moon. This is the first trip back to the moon in a decade and a pre-cursor to returning humans to the moon. LCROSS is scheduled to crash into a polar crater on the moon on October 9, 2009 to kick up permanently shaded terrain their and see if there is water-ice, crucial to supporting humans on the moon. This video gives the broader context around the mission--particularly the drama around any launch--and shows the fun-loving, human side of us space geeks!
