  • his hypothetical metaphors border on being alittle excessive, but he is damn good. I'm happy he is around and working. This is good, important stuff.

  • We now have clean nukes. We now need clean fuel. Volcanoes do more to heat up the planet than any form of human industry or endeavor.

  • he is brilliant.

  • This guy is such a pompous, condescending, vapid douchebag.

  • Thomas Friedman is no George Friedman. This man is an opportunist and not a leading figure in politics, either is Fareed.

George Friedman, Brezenski, Merry, and Kissinger are the only reliable sources on geopolitics.

  • China buys coal from the US. and they are going to need more and more. we should tax the coal companies and put the money towards solar panels and efficient batteries. China keeps growing and we gain wealth!

  • If you think otherwise, I'll sell you my plans for a diesel-powered spaceship.

  • Even if there is no global warming, let's grant all the "skeptics" that just for the sake of argument, it still makes sense to move beyond fossil fuels. It's not even for the sake Friedman is concerned about (economic competition and geopolitical tensions). No, what I see in fossil fuels is an extremely low energy fuel. I think about the extreme long run, and there is no way that humanity can develop into a mature, transcendent species on the back of coal oil and natural gas.

  • Tom, please leave energy questions to scientists. You are a writer and please stop with stuff like from Beirut to Jerusalem. We have enough reasons to admire u for that.

  • He's a writer not a scientist.
