  • Up here we use very short tails and a lot less hair ,the more the hair the least fish up here

  • @dave777blaster I`ve found this season I am getting more hookups on Wooly worms rather than Buggers. When you tie the tail and hackle short trout or bass might take them more as a nymph or hellgrammite, and in larger sizes Wooly buggers are taken more as small fish or leeches. Where I fish, the water is pretty brown so I seem to get more hits on a bigger profile fly just cuz the fish can see it better

  • @dafishguru I found the trout around here like the wooly worms more and we fish them just below the surface

    tight lines

  • @dave777blaster I fished a couple of times this summer in some pretty remote places in the Adirondacks this summer, I had more luck on the woolly worms. I think it might be a regional thing, but the most hits I got were off a custom fly I tie, a white foam popper in size 6. Caught a few nice 3 or 4 pound smallies

  • i like the peacock herl ill definitely try it, taqils should be 1 to 1.5 x the shank length, i prefer a longer tail. using the thread to finish is the head same as a whip finish, if you practice you can do the same uaing your fingers, lastly if you cut your marabou to the bead it gives you a smooth body with out adding more materiels. i have a bugger video on here

  • Thanks, the same technique can be used for, say, pearl flashabou on a white Woolly Bugger, or such, its a good thing to know

  • the finishing trick does the exact same thing a whip finish does it brings the tag underneath the tread wraps but good job i like the herl idea

  • The hackle i used for this fly i really dislike, but it was long enough, so i used it. Usually i like to use hackle that has a lot of webbing in between the fibers, you can get pretty good stuff just out of the bags of hackle that are tied together and dyed

  • I like that little trick at the end for tying off at the bead end, works very nice.

what type of hackle did you for this fly?

  • Honestly, its all the preference of the tier. Say, you wanted to fish a deep pool, or in the spring. you put weight to get it near the bottom. but if you are fishing a small stream or riffle, the weight just might catch you on the bottom. See what i mean?
