Is the a tone in the repeater? i know that cant be the GP300's MDC

No repeater. It was Kenwood 271 at home that was sending DTMF tone.

No it sounds like the guy he is talking to has ANI. turned on (which is just a DTMF tone) MDC would give a diffrent tone and also give a long beep on his radio at key up.
