Frank Bryant is a professor of literature. And Rita is

his newest student. A hairdresser who thinks

Macbeth runs the local pub. And Hamlet is a plate

of eggs with cheese. He's a failed writer who has

given up on his life. She's determined to change

hers by getting an education. And the more she

loves to learn. The more he learns how to love.

  • I was once "Rita", and now I am an English language and literature professor. I'm done with my academic units for an Master's degree in Language and Literature, and has finished my Master's Degree in Teaching the English Language at De la Salle University-Manila. Am still very much interested in having a PHD in Applied Linguistics.

I've seen this film before when I went back to college at the age of 36, for a Bachelor's degree major in English. Touching film for me coz it's my story.

  • @theotherantigone I'm the same. Did the Access Course last year and started University last September, reading English for a batchelor's degree at the age of 37.

I used to see this film as a bit of dramatic comedy when I was younger, but now it touches so many nerves that it brings a lump to the throat or tears to the eyes. There is nothing better in this world than education - especially of those with a humble background; from the working classes or the adult who realises his/her potential.

  • Really like this film so far, but please, why did they have to choose that music...?!

  • @theotherantigone That's lovely
