A great way to look for a good horse for beginners is to consider a breed that is noted for it's versatility and sound body and mind. Choose the perfect horse for a beginner with tips from a horseback riding instructor in this video on horse breeds.

  • Very good advice of choosing an older horse that is well trained. I've seen too many people getting a younger horse so the can "bond" while training. Since they have no idea as how to train a horse, they get discouraged and frustrated because it takes a longer time. Our first two horses were 3y.o. and 6 weeks old. Luckily for us we had people that were very helpful with our horses. 4 years later, and 3 more horses, I am still learning new things about horses.

  • Even with the stock horses and the older horses can walk all over the rider. The palomino isn't technically a breed. My first horse was an arabian/welsh pony cross.

  • a palimino isnt a horse breed, its a color.

  • I own a paint horse and i don't think he would be a good First Horse for anyone. He is very stubborn and head heavy. My trainer has trained a lot of paints and they have all been stubborn and liked to play games.

  • My first horse was a TB :/ at first i was scared on her, but now i realize how much she really loved me, and how much i miss her. :(

  • ik some calm arabs and some crazy QH's and paints. its all about the horse like where the horse has been what its seen all that stuff. My arab is a great first horse because even tho he tests and plays around alot, when push comes to shove, if u r really scared or dont want to do something he makes the right choise and eather contiues slowly and does all the work for u or if he's not to sure eather he pretty much just says naw i dont think thats a good idea today and looks for another way.

  • I learned how to ride on an Arabian. Best ride ever. It is unbelievably comfortable, and so flowing. And they are also gentle, beautiful, and yet high-spirited, and isn't afraid to show it. Now that's the type of horse I dig for.

  • *sigh* if i had enough money to board a horse, then i would choose a Pasi Fino... or a paint... idk!

  • i would love him or her she looks nice and cute we would be bffl best friends for life this is coming from kelcy135 :)

  • My first horse was a 19 year old morgan mare I still have her she's such a good girl always gentle very carefull and knew how far I could go away from home. I was only 8 she takes very good care of me. I can't ride her anymore but she is my jogging buddy now.

  • I know what you're saying but any well trained horse is a good horse for beginners.

  • I know I was being sarcastic, some people on older comments were saying that it is a breed.
