Italo explains that while trolling for walleye in late fall and winter you should use Rapala TT20 - trolls to twenty and different crankbaits to get to the suspended fish.

  • So I'm fishing for walleye in a lake with no natural reproduction, what do walleye do during that time instead of spawning?

  • @chevykid241 They still move to spawning sites and go through the motions, but for some reason they are not reproducing....God bless you, Italo

  • @ItaloLabignan Thank you! The lake I fish is spring fed so maybe the eggs just can't fertilize.

  • @chevykid241 You are welcome. That may be a reason. The others may be that all fish are same sex, no adequate spawning grounds, or too many preditors feeding on juvenile fish that do hatch..God bless you, Italo

  • Italo, what would you recommend for a muskie/walleye trolling lure in the Kawartha Lakes in the summer time.

    Thanks

  • @TheSteeleCM It depends, if you will be trolling some of the deeper water areas in places like Balsam Lake, north end of Pigeon Lake where the water may be over 30' deep, a large musky crankbait that dives to 15' would work well. If you troll shallower areas like Lake Scugog, south end of Pigeon/Sturgeon/Stoney Lake, etc., you are better off trolling a musky bucktail around the weeds, or a shallow running body bait like the Storm Thunder Stick...God bless you, Italo
