THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE, HE WAS CRITISCISED FOR SINGING THE LIGHTER MUSIC, AS FAR AS I CAN SAY, IT IS A GOOD JOB THAT HE LEFT SUCH A VARIED OUTPUT ON RECORDS. LAURITZ MELCHIOR SAYS IN AN INTERVIEW THAT I HAVE(HIS LAST) QUOTE "TAUBER RECORDED A LOT OF CRAP - BUT AT LEAST IT IS GOOD CRAP". HE THEN SINGS..."HEARTS DELIGHT", AND AT THE END HE SAYS "AS SUNG BY TAUBER", OF COURSE IT IS NOT, THEY HAD TWO VERY DIFFERENT TIMBRES.

Would you please post Gigli doing this-- I heard his recording once years ago -- While he did record it at the very end of his career the rendition is heartfelt and still demonstrates the mezza voce of the wonderrful Gigli!! Thank you--Your videos are a treasure trove!!

Josef Schmidt and Tauber both thought very highly of each other.

Schmidt had the better acuti and Tauber the better lower middle tones.

But all singers have to learn to use what they have to best advantage, and these two certainly did.

@TAUBERFANLEHAR2 An unwise Melchior who stuck to Wagner as his challenge. From someone who had to redefine artistic merit in Joseph Schmidt's limited output, I had to understand and catergorize every syllable in my cognitive palette. Schmidt didn't make an error. I would like to think the Richard Tauber achieved the same but I have not condensed his entire output. However I have listened, thanks to your videos, that Richard Tauber sang each song as if he had written it himself.

Alan Murray was so impressed by Tauber's performance of this song, that he wrote 'My heart is in Vienna Still' specially for him. It is also recorded.
