Americans love to claim that we are a free country. Certainly it is true that we in the U.S. have freedom of speech... that is as long as we dont incite violence, cause panic, threaten or harass. (All very sensible limitations on free speech.) We Americans are free to speak our political points of view and to criticize our government even when we are uninformed and contradicting ourselves. Yes, it is often true in America that the poor speak out to protect the rich. (No more taxes) Freedom of speech does in fact allow for the ignorant to expose themselves.

Political extremists often want to use the concept of freedom to argue their point. Often times, these arguments use freedom as a concept that goes well beyond what is meant by a free country. A free country does not mean we are without regulation, it does not mean that we allow business people to rip off the consumer, it does not mean that we are allowed to defraud people or threaten public health, and it definitely does not mean that we are allowed to do whatever we want. Ironically it is the same people who call for small government that are the first to cry foul when they feel the have been wronged and demand that the government, or correlating government agency, come to their rescue.

As for this video, well, youll have to watch it to find out more. I will note, however, that this description goes much further into depth to explain what the intent of this video actually was. Instead, I framed it something like a cross between an advertisement for NorCalCorsello and a "form letter." For those who simply are incapable of looking beyond the depth, reading between the lines, and that are simply not able to understand what it was I was trying to say, I wrote this. Though, those people are unlikely to read this but will rather will type in comments like pointless or youre an idiot and then move on to the next video.

My point? Sadly, many of my fellow Americans do not understand what it means when we say we have a free country. They confuse the concept with Anarchy, and sadly, they often dont understand the implication of Anarchy either. If we truly embraced Anarchy, I would say: good luck protecting your property, your things yourself and your family. Good luck getting access to safe disease-free foods and medications. It saddens me greatly that our educational system has failed to teach our people the real value of what we have in this country. We do, indeed, have a very nice balance of freedom and regulation.

  • WE are free to SPEAK our OPINION to THE GOVERNMENT.....AS LONG AS WE AGREE WITH THEM....

    THATS THE AMERICAN WAY !!!!!

  • We're free-er than most countries. But I think we should have some restrictions. eh....

  • I agree too. We live under the illusion of freedom. But real freedom? Not hardly.

  • completely agreed

  • I agree totally....except the HIGH standard of living part....48+ million without health care, homeless veterans....hunger...but yes we do have the freedom of speech.

  • coincidentally... the shirt i'm wearing right now says "no one is free when others are oppressed" and it's a picture of an a sideways american flag with a political prisoner trapped behind the stripes.... it's an anti-flag shirt that i haven't worn it for years... but i found it today.

  • Land of the free and home of the slave.

  • I totally agree I try to explain this all the time, But...People just don't understand..To be serious, We aren't free..
