Sigur Ros ~ 1 Year Traveling Indonesia

In 2007, I departed Vancouver to explore Indonesia with an HD camera, teaching English in Jakarta to survive. I've cut the 16 hours of footage down to 4 minutes, to catch the attention of people - interested in Asia, sea turtles, travel, musical montages, poetic documentary (like Baraka, Koyaanisqatasi...) or hopefully interested in my abilities as a film maker...

I loosely focused my efforts on critically endangered sea turtles, seeing a possible use for an 'edutaining' nature documentary on them, and am still searching for that niche. On shorter holidays, I took suggestions from locals, & booked it out of the city on plane, motorcycle, train, bus...to capture video using local knowledge of the exotic & mysterious places in the country, some of which are featured here...The video, much like the year and a half I spent making it, seems to flash before your eyes.

Carrying video gear all over the country detracts a bit from the experience ... next time I'll travel with a still camera ... pointing a huge video camera at these friendly people you're talking about can give you mixed feelings, as well ... & so far as today, I'm still waiting for the project to go somewhere - because it was made with sweat & tears :)

The volcano was Anak Krakatau. It's the reminence of old Krakatau volcano between Java & Sumatra.

I'll have to check out your videos ~ the country itself is an addiction...!

I would like to see the whole 16 hours. It is an amazing country. Any chance on releasing it? The quality is superb.

It sure was an addiction to me, spent over two years in Indonesia all together.

Best parts for me were the Sangir-Talaud, and the Maluku islands.The combination of natural beauty and the friendly cheerful people made those areas my absolute favorites. I now wish I had a video cam back then.

Been traveling a fair bit through this immense and beautiful country from the early nineties on, till my last trip in 2006.
