On the Senate floor, U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla) discusses the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act. In highlighting the devastation that has taken place at the hands of the LRA, Inhofe urges support for the measure from both sides of the aisle. The measure will provide humanitarian assistance to those in the region that have been victims of the devastation inflicted by the LRA.

  • Does the Haiti quake pose a significant threat? No one seems to have any problem sending $380mil in humanitarian aid plus thousands of troops to Haiti. How is the LRA any less our problem? $380mil for 200,000 dead plus countless others displaced or $35mil for 30,000 abducted and mutilated children, over 100,000 massacred, over one million people displaced plus countless rapes and mutilations and the numbers keep rising. For me the figure seems very justified.

  • I'll have to respectfully disagree with the opinions here. There's been a history of a lack of US involvement which has led to uprisings that we wish we would have taken care of in its earliest stages. Joseph Kony has already spread out from a small region of one country and is now affecting three additional countries. Who's to say he won't infiltrate other nations if he's never stopped?

A tactful strategy here can help bring relief to widows and orphans that have suffered for decades.

  • @ROOTCYPHA The BIG FAT LIE is not the issue here roogcypha!!!!!!!!!!! Get a grip on it will you. Geez...And this ARICOM think you have here. Get your money together take a trip to the region and see for your self and then come back.Bet ya you will have a whole new outlook on life....think of others for a change.

  • Listen, I feel for these people, but I do not believe that justifies our tax dollars being used when we have more pressing issues to worry about.

It's not that I don't think they need help, but there are ways to do it without our hard-earned tax money being spent.

  • US HAS OIL INTREST IN UGANDA PERIOD!

Thesse Africans havent been fighting for ever , thats a big FAT LIE!

King Leopold was was causing genocide

in this region. AFRICOM is writen all over this.

  • Oyp567567, it's not about whether or not the LRA are a threat to US, because they aren't at all. It's about the fact that 30,000+ Ugandan children have been abducted, raped, killed, and tortured in ways that we can't even imagine. It's about whether or not we think an African child is as valuable as an American child.

  • Thank you Sen. Inhofe!

  • YESH!! ITS ABOUT TIME INVISIBLE CHILDREN GOT OUT THERE TO SENATORS!! All our hard work is paying off!!

  • Commenters who are against using tax dollars to end Joseph Kony's reign of terror:

If we were in a situation such as this, would you want another country to help us? If your sons and daughters were being forced to fight in a rebel army, would you not want international support to get them back?

We live in a blessed country. WE NEED TO HELP OTHERS. "National Interest" should not mean "Selfish Interest" Our nation should have a national interest to help others, not only ourselves.
