@BROADTRAIN1979, This is accomplished by a magnetic reed switch embedded in the track right at the point where the third/fourth rail ends, wired in series with a white LED. On the bogies fitted with cosmetic power pick-up shoes, a small magnet is glued to the underside, so the switch will close for fraction of a second as the train passes over it. In the case of the 1992 stock, there are two Tenshodo motor bogies at each end. The magnets in these are strong enough to close the above switch.

I ordered it from Metromodels and then super-detailed it and fitted DCC for more precise speed control. This is a six car train and it took me about 1-2 years to paint, build interiors glaze, etc. Well worth it!
