Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllandysiliogogogoch may seem like a random collection of letters but it is in fact a tiny place on the island of Anglesey in Wales. It is thought to be the longest place name in the world. A replica of the sign that stands in the village train station will be on display at the British Memorial Garden in Hanover Square New York on February 27,2009 until the end of March.

Check out the British Memorial Garden Website www.britishmemorialgarden.org for more information.

  • @markellwood2 Oh so because its a name of something doesn't make it a word. Ok.

  • @666BrotherofMetal it doesn't say longest word it says longest train station name

  • When I was in Wales, the Welsh lady who said it did not sound like the video. It was much prettier sounding and less phlegmy.

  • @markellwood2 That's not a word, that's a sentence, mate, Llanfair, I don't think is the longest word anymore, but its still a single word. :)

  • I keep listening to 2:00 ;)

  • When she speaks Welsh puke starts to come out of my mouth involuntarily

  • lets see sum of yous pronounce it man

  • the longest is acctually in thailand

Krung thep mahanakhon bovorn ratanakosin mahintharayutthaya mahadilok pop noparatratchathani burirom udomratchanivetmahasathan amornpiman avatarnsathit sakkathattiyavisnukarmprasit (167 letters)

  • For anyone who doesn't realise, this isn't a real name but a 19th-century novelty invention for tourists. It's not even the longest in Wales, since someone invented a longer one a few years back. The real name of the place is Llanfairpwllgwyngyll -- "St Mary's of the white hazel in the hollow", usually shortened to Llanfairpwll.

  • Yep, Welshman agreeing here. It's the longest placename in the UK. It may not even be the longest placename in Europe (have a feeling that may be somewhere in the Basque country?)
