Why is there no 'all red period'?

@brp1801: my light only works with all lights (red yellow green) at the same time!

@vertoisful They old skool cast aluminum ones are. The 12-12-12 (meaning 12" lenses) weigh about 40 to 50 lbs. The smaller 8-8-8 is about 25 lbs. The ones that are made of polycarbonate weigh far less (almost 75% less approximately).

whats the name of the traffic signal with 5 lights
All red is a relatively new concept in the context of the total time electric signals have been used. Signals of this vintage used electromechanical controllers that oftentimes didn't have enough steps to display all red intervals. The invention of electronic controllers allowed more indication options. Also the Sargent-Sowell in the collection used a die cut cam Synchron controller rather than a step controller and displays an all red indication. (The buzzing is a flourescent light.)
