I agree with wocereW - this piece should not be played as a race! I was appalled when I clicked on a video here and heard it played molto vivace. You don't get the nuances that way at all. Passepied is described as "a dance faster than a minuet" but that doesn't mean speed demon. I think he gets a little too slow in the last passage before the end, but that beautiful ending should be - and here is - something that can be treasured. I'm glad I looked for the longest video of this piece. Stellar!
If I may express my differing opinion: I think Passepied becomes dull, structurally scattered and a bit silly when played this slowly. I prefer more energetic interpretations. Actually, passepied is a certain sort of dance in a fast tempo; I would reckon that also the Debussy Passepied should be.
I love this version! Almost every printing of the score that I've seen indicates "allegretto ma non troppo", which is how Arrau performs it. He relishes the lushness of the melody, playing in the romantic style that I believe Debussy intended. Many other artists, however, tend to intepret Passepied using a faster allegro or vivace tempo; this is ~not~ 'a piacere', and it certainly shouldn't be a race to finish such a beautiful piece!

wow.. A little slow for my liking, but that said this was immaculate! Such perfect phrasing and loyalty to the score. Arrau is a wonderful pianist.

Arrau is the most creative as well as loyal interpreter of Debussy. When "el Maestro" plays Debussy then we realise what Debussy tried to express.

I always say Debussy is a genius, but in hands of another genius as Arrau is simply superb, without comparison...

thank your for posting it. arrau, for me, is one who best understood debussy. is just perfect.
composer that seems 'easy' listening but I really wonder why. I can't afford to englobe such richness.
