The nose and the pan servo broke at the crash due to a tip stall. After lots of tears and CA glue, the plane was ready for the next try. But the pan servo didn't survive......
The GPS did not bind, maybe because of the city. I had also some problems with the BlackStork OSD there. But the KX-171 pro is emitting more RF noise into the GPS band.
Still some improvements for the LC-filter necessary....

Wikipedia:
The Vienna Donauturm (English: Danube Tower), opened in April 1964, is the tallest free-standing structure in Austria, at 252 metres (827 ft), the tallest structure in Austria, and among the 75 tallest towers in the world. The tower is located near the north bank of the Danube River in the district of Donaustadt.
The Donauturm spire carries antennas of cellular phone networks, private VHF radio stations and several other radio communication services. Despite its similarity to TV towers elsewhere, it has not been used for TV broadcasting.
Two revolving restaurants (at a height of 160 and 170 metres, or 525 and 558 ft) offer a varied view over the Austrian capital and the Danube River below. It takes the platform either 26, 39 or 52 minutes to complete a full revolution. The restaurants were originally largely identical; however, now the top is an "upscale" restaurant (named "Donauwalzer") and the lower restaurant is a café (named "Panorama").
The observation deck also bears a bungee-jumping site, with a platform projecting from the area. It is used at times during the summer months.

2nd and 3rd flight with the new plane

Setup:
Falcon EPO Flying Wing from BEVRC.com, special motor mounting, canopy not used
2x E-Max ES08-A servos
1x GWS PICO+ BB pan servo for the camera, moving with a controller stick (broke at the crash- not usable)
Thunder Tiger ACE RC BLC-40 ESC, 40A, Settings: Airplane Mode, Fast Throttle Response, Standard Timing, Light Discharge Protection, No Brake
ACE RC OBL 29/35-10H brushless outrunner, 3500kv
Graupner airscrew coupling diameter 3,15mm
Graupner CAM Speed Prop 4.7 x 4"
max. current approx. 34 A
Thunder Power ProLite V2 3s 11.1V 2600mAh 20C LiPo battery (weighs only 188g!!!)
Multiplex RX-7 SYNTH DS IPD 40 MHz PPM receiver, 3.5m antenna (Lambda/2)
Graupner/JR MX-16s 40MHz + Emergency Booster
Center of gravity (CG): approx. 316mm from the nose, 4mm up reflex of the elevons
AUW with NO FPV gear: approx .640g

FPV gear:
KX-171 pro= KX171 G2 PAL CCD camera from BEVRC
1.3 GHz 800mW Fox= Sunsky transmitter
1,2 or 1,3 GHz transmitters are legal in Austria with Radio (Ham) License between 1240 and 1300 MHz up to 200W
I'm using channel 9 (1280 MHz)
Stock 3dBi antenna, upper plastic casing removed- should be better for 1280 MHz. Weighs only 18g instead of 27g because I have ground the SMA connector too.
Cyclops Easy OSD (CE OSD) V1.4
Fat Shark RCV922 Aviator Edition video goggles
Microphone
Powering the FPV gear with the flight battery, 11.1V= 3s
LC-filter, needs some improvement
Weight FPV gear: approx. 160g with LC-filter
Ground Station: Lawmate 1.3 GHz with BEVRC 3dBi antenna, upper plastic casing removed
Powered with a 3s LiPo battery

FPV Recording:
Canon MVX200i Mini DV PAL Camcorder (DV-AVI, 720x576, 25 fps)
Deinterlacing with "Alparysoft Deinterlace" (Advanced method, ME search enabled) ,saved with "Cedocida DV Codec" and Virtual Dub
Editing with Ulead Videostudio 11
Compressing with Xvid, Single Pass, Quantizer 2 (approx. 72 MB per minute), MP3 256 kps CBR Stereo
This is the best possible quality in my opinion (with this camera, transmitter setup)

All up weight with FPV gear: approx. 804g
Top level speed (airspeed): approx. 100 km/h
Flight time: 5- 30 minutes, depending on throttle and thermal lift
Range: approx. 1,5 km with this setup

Costs:
Plane, camera approx. 300 Euro
Altogether approx. 2000 Euro (Flight Simulator, transmitter, batteries, charger, video goggles, FPV video recorder....)

  • WTF wie'n PC Spiel

  • @Knoxvillehandy Ja, nur viel realistischere Flugphysik ;-)

  • Nur geil.....weiter so, mutig seit Ihr schon..

  • @cleverwerben

  • yep i'm using the same osd and im having the same problem...it always binds but sometimes needs more than 15min. try changing plane postions. Also what pin are you using for recording because im having lots of problems with the recording thing.

  • @CyberPilot360 there was no problem with GPS binding before mounting the fpv gear in the plane.

At the maiden flight it needed more than 10min.

I have repositioned the OSD now, let's hope this helps.

I'm splitting the video signal with a simple Y-cable, recording with a MiniDV camcorder.

I couldn't notice a decrease of picture quality with the Y-cable, so no videosplitter used.

  • 0:51 LOL

  • wäre cooler gewesen wen ihr euch z.b. von 5km entfernung im tiefflug angeschlichen hättet ^^

  • Great Fpv but man, make it easy and much better, buy a gopro hd and you can transmit with transmitter and record the video in full hd 1080 at the same time, on your glasses you see it like your actual config. But when you get back the camera you have the video recorded on 1080p it's much greater.

  • i want play

  • stimmt..auch wieder sonst verschlucken sich die Leut beim Vesper..lach..aber echt sehr gut was Ihr da macht, Hut ab , würde ich auch gern können..weiter so !!!
