  • Also, in crits, one trick I use is to pedal while sitting, at high cadence out of the corner, then as we're almost up to full speed on the long straight, stand and sprint past a good chunk of the pack.

  • 2:50 That's true, heavier riders are not as well suited to standing. Firstly, we're taller (usually) so we have more leverage to bend the frame, the bars, and the tires and wheels laterally which wastes energy (similar to the effect of bouncing front suspension on an MTB when you stand). Particularly in race situations when the required power outputs are higher. I'm 6'4 (194cm) and 183 lb. (83 kg). I stand when I train but rarely in races.
