Hey I am in my second year of thyroid suppression therapy after a thyroidectomy due to a widely invasive cancer! So every time there is no change on a CT Scan or an Ultrasound it's good news! I just thought I would share the way I got the report this time! All the way from Down Under!

  • Basically what the radioactive iodine does is it kills any remaining thyrod cells that the surgery didn't get. Because your thyroid is the only organ in the body that can absorb iodine, the doctors give you an iodine depletion diet to starve your thyroid cells of iodine and then when they give you the radioactive iodine, the thyroid cells draw up as much of the iodine as they can because they're starving and that's how you kill off the rest of the thyroid cells left behind :)

  • synthyroid replaces the thyroid hormone tsh that your thyroid use to make radio idodine is idodine that is made by the thyroid its also a test to veiw the thyroid i know because i had thyroid cancer i had my thyroid removed too

  • Also, what do you mean by "thyroid suppression therapy?" Do you mean you are taking synthroid or hormone therapy? Or a different form of therapy?

  • Did you ever experience any negative side effects after having the I-131 radio therapy? You look great!

  • CHEER!!...Great news !!! :)
