"The most important poverty program is a job." Yet, a survey of 23 U.S. cities found that eleven of the cities reported an INCREASE in the number of EMPLOYED homeless people. Nineteen percent of homeless people are employed. More than 50% of single mothers are below the poverty line. Even with a job you can be impoverished. A "job" alone isn't the answer. I believe there are plenty of people who would much rather have a grant for education/training than a handout.

damned if you do and damned if you don't. i think obama answered that question the way a president. as a black person, i do not want any president paying particular attention to any race of people. government is suppose to uphold the constitution for the betterment of all its citizens regardless of race, class, creed, etc. so i think obama nailed that question. if only his actions as president spoke louder maybe we would be better-off.

When Bush left office African American unemployment was 13.7%. Now the right once to condemn Obama for it being 15% especially since they simply didn't care about unemployment for blacks.

He can't just start to come around now and think that makes it right. We can't eat his words, we can't pay our bills with his visits to African-American communities, at this late date.
