I had the pleasure of having Billy Smith as my goalie coach for 5 years. He was one of the greatest goalies of all time. Two things he would always say to me were Glove Everything and It doesnt matter who is in front of you(your team or not) slash the back of their ankles till they get out of your way. He was the best goalie coach i have ever had. One of the funniest mans i have ever met. Also, he is very crazy he stood in the net with on a blocker and trapper stoping slapshots from my teammates

Billy Smith was a pussy- what he did was try to cut oppents of his to meet in the SCF. Det were not a superpower in the 80s- in the 80s you had to either come thru Chi or EDM.

All he did was open the way for more Stevens Cheapshots and Lindros and CTE of today.

Fighting belongs- headshots and cheap shots- do not.

Original 6 are class- never has there been stupidity of today in a Det/Hawks game- O6 teams- have class the other 24- dont.

In January of 1985 (after the incident) Fraser challenged Billy during a Hawks-Islanders pregame skate at the old Chicago Stadium. Of course with no mask or stick in his hand and potentially having to deal wth someone face-to-face ole' Billy-Boy wanted no part of Curt Fraser......not surprising at all........

Wow, aside from bananas, you've got some serious issues! You do know Billy Smith is in the hockey hall of fame, no? Wayne Gretzky often referred to him as the best goalie of that era, when speaking about goalies. Hey, the solution was not to go diving into his crease. You crashed the net on Smitty, he made you pay a price for it. But maybe I'm wasting my breath talking to a guy who wants to seriously disable a player, who's already been retired for 21 years, now. A) There fanbase is not non-existant, it may be not huge or even just average, but its certainly not non-existant.

B) What team do you like? I really honestly would love to know...not many organizations have had large successful years or cups to show for that matter.

C) Atrocious hockey? I'm sorry, but no matter how much we suck and lose, most of the games we lose are close...mainly because we have no superstars on our team to close the gap, unlike other teams.
