There are some people on this earth who were born to make music. Hermeto is truly a musical phenomenon; a being who exudes music in every way, whatever the vessel or instrument he uses to express himself. I was absolutely blown away when I first heard 'Nem Um Talvez' and 'Little Church' from Miles' 'Live Evil' album. I love Hermeto's use of harmony which is predominantly why I transcribed this solo. He is virtuosic on any instrument he turns his hand to and the Rhodes is no exception. The sound of the suitcase Rhodes is one of the most beautiful sounds ever created by man (in my humble opinion) and it's very affirming to see that such a complete musician like Hermeto has used the Rhodes too. I had the cover off my Rhodes to record this video mainly because I'd just tuned and voiced a few notes. I usually prefer to keep the cover on for several reasons; I usually keep my Clavinet on top of it and it also shields the player from some of the mechanical noises (I prefer just the pure tone of the piano as amplified, unlike some people who like their Rhodes' noisy). Anyway, I hope that you will enjoy this video - comments are always welcome!

  • Is it just me or is the sound panned on the headphones?

  • @JorgeL721

Hi Jorge, yes, that's the stereo tremolo on the suitcase piano itself - when I transcribed the original track, I made sure that I noted exactly when Hermeto switched the tremolo on (about 0:37s) and off. Thanks,

    Tom

  • beautiful sounding rhodes bro, what year is that?

  • @damulch

Hi there, thanks for the comment, I'm glad you like the sound. This is a 1975/76 model I believe - the harp no. is 0665 and the pick-up assembly no. is 5085. The serial number is 00342!

    Thanks,

    Tom

  • Beautiful job Tom! I totally agree with you - nothing beats the original Rhodes sound - live in front of you. I used a Rhodes Mk I & II all through the 70's\mid 80's.

I now use NI's Elektrik Piano, which is pretty close to the sound, but they can't seem to get the tremolo or spring reverb anywhere close to the original the original was a panning tremolo). Thanks for reminding me how much I miss my original D6! Please upload more tunes. You're great and this track is really a fantastic effort.
