Sibelius's very well known 'Valse Triste' was a part of some incidental music he wrote for his brother-in-law Arvid's play Kuolema (Death). In the play, a man is sitting at the bedside of his dying mother. He falls asleep and his mother imagines that her late husband appears. They dance a lovely waltz together, and when the son awakens , he finds that his mother has died.

I am son of former Finnish National Opera manager. I wished to meet mr. Lindberg, who was accused to take care of recordings of finnish classical music, never did. Mr. Kuusisto did !
