Don't Let That Sun Go Down is written by singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg from his album "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed...and Some Blues" which recorded in various locations in the US between 92 & 95. It captures Dan Fogelbergs on stage Live performance with no studio repairs for sound and it shows the breadth of his musical abilities. "Don't Let That Sun Go Down" was recorded in Knoxville 1994, it deliver a souful feel with Fogelberg in fine bluesy vocals. The following is message to DanFans from my partner River, a.k.a. MariaGlenn:
"The date was July 7, 1997..the location was Myrtle Beach, South Carolina...The venue was The Palace, and it was a wonderful summer night...Second row seats to the left front of the stage, gave a wonderful view of this acoustic concert by Dan. Dan's performance was as usual, perfect, filled with his wonderful sense of humor, and beautifully played...Mid way through the show, Dan announced, "this is a new song I've never recorded"...and there was an intense silence through out the crowd in expectation...Oh Boy! If I had to explain in words, how this song hit my senseswell, that would be a long write...smiling... Cold chills, goosebumps all over my body, heart racing, tears maybe...I'm not tellingand a deep sense in my "know-er" of another prophetic song being laid down from Dan... leave it to saythe man was "connected"! As the music fades...the fans are all rapt in attention...and total silence filled the hall...a long silence...and then thunderous applause erupted, with a standing ovation...an Dan in his humble way, bowed, smiled and said "So I guess I'm gonna lay down the track now!" My suggestion to Bill to make this video was inspired, after yet another listen to the Live albumit struck me as something that Dan would really like to be done...so we've researched his references, searched for images to match...and gave our best, Bill and I, to make it a true justice to his stunning composition...Dan was a master at the craft of story song...and his musical abilities speak for themselves...It is my honor to be associated with this project with my "partner" Bill a.k.a. JMEagle101...We do hope you enjoy it Jean...Thank you Bill!" (Maria Glenn ~)

Don't Let That Sun Go Down (Lyrics)

Old Chief Joseph gazed with a tearful eye
Stood on a mountain top watching his people die
Laid down his rags and his weapons of war and cried
From this day forever I will fight no more
Whoa brother, don't let that sun go down
Whoa brother, don't let that sun go down

Queen of England lying at death's dark door
Threw down her crown, she said I won't need this anymore
With terminal breath, she raised up a cry, she said
All my possessions for one moment of time
Whoa mother, don't let that sun go down
Whoa mother, don't let that sun go down

What you gonna do - man of flesh and bone
What you gonna say when it's your turn to go home
Walk down a road, hear that cold wind moan
You know in the end there's one walk
You're gonna walk alone

Christ at Calvary, nailed to his wooden tower
Writhing in agony, facing the final hour
When the sky turned as red as the color of blood he cried out
Father forgive them for they know not what
Whoa Father, don't let that sun go down
Whoa Father, don't let that sun go down

What you gonna do - man of flesh and bone
What you gonna say when it's your turn to go home
When you walk down the road
Hear that cold wind moan (moan, moan, moan, moan)
You know in the end there's one walk
You're gonna walk alone
You know in the end there's one walk
You're gonna walk alone

  • This wonderful video only reinforces my appreciation for Dan's wonderful music and his ability to spark the creativity of his talented family. This truly is his legacy, and it lives EVER ON.....our LEADER OF THE BAND. We miss you, Dan, but your music lives on!

  • Difficult to listen to that for me. I still can't believe he's gone. I still grieve for John Lennon as well and all of the talents that were taken too soon.

But I truly believe his was the greatest loss to humaity's talent-pool.

One of the very few who could write "Perfect Music".

  • ...Oh, that voice...!

  • Absolutely Amazing! Thank you ever so for this. From listening to Dan's voice sing this, it shows the kind of man he was; his "feelings", which went straight to my heart. Wonderful! BRAVO!!!!
