European Journal | Estonia: Renewed fears over Russia

The war over the border between Russia and Georgia has revived bad memories in the Baltic States. 18 years ago, Moscow tried to prevent the independence of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia by force of arms. Now the Baltic countries feel threatened once more, fearing that Russia could move against them under the pretext of protecting Russian minorities. The situation is especially tense in Estonia. A year ago, the removal of a Soviet military monument from the centre of Tallinn provoked serious riots.

No don't think Estonians didn't put up any fight at all. Thousands of Estonians fought against Russians in both Finland and Estonia. Armed resistance continued until 1950s.

They´ll just lie and tell that NATO occupied them, forced them to learn english and that during all those years they where in favour of Russian coming back all along.

Estonains can only fight by licking the boots of their latest conquerors.

What Russians should have done was a serious clean up, destroy all those small, irrelevant countries that shouldn´t exist and now depend on western taxpayers to survive.

How long will it take? In the long run of the Baltic states ever leave NATO or NATO breaks up, its GG for them :D

Lol and estonians didnt?...... remember battle of Narva ( waffen SS estonian legion with danes ,dutch etc) against hundreds of thousands of soviet soldiers. Thx to estonian effort back then u finns had a chance for freedom. sadly there was no chance for freedom for us back then. But im really happy that atleast our friends through history got theyre freedom. and ofcourse we would fight back if russia would attack again . cheers

@raigoor9 I actually knew that, but such a marginal army might be left aside - so the movement ended in the 50s.
