Muriwai is one of New Zealands more challenging beaches to patrol with its dangerous waters, extreme tides and deadly rips. Flowing into the shark-filled southern ocean there are many visitors unseen to the everyday swimmer. Trawling off the back of a kayak near Oaia Island with her partner, Angela Carol has become nervous after seeing shadows in the ocean and wants out. While keeping an eye out for sharks Patrol Captain Andrew Lancaster spots the kayak in trouble and quickly sends the IRB to investigate. Down the beach another fisherman causes havoc as he loses control of his long-line and hooks a swimmer in the flagged area! Frustrated lifeguards battle with the fisherman to get him to reluctantly wind in his line before more people are injured. While over on the East Coast, Muriwais rival club Mt Maunganui is patrolling a harbour swim, which goes all wrong as swimmers are stopped in their tracks after notorious rips appear after the tide changes.
