Tings Dey Happen, written and performed by Dan Hoyle, developed with and directed by Charlie Varon. Previous runs at The Marsh, San Francisco, and Culture Project, New York City. More information at www.danhoyle.com.
I was lucky enough to see this last night, fabulous show. Hoyle's very interest in the subject demonstrates an unusual intelligence at work, and he really puts the whole bloody mess across in a way that no documentary ever could. Genius.
His trademark shifts to new characters are just as striking and complete in The Real Americans. Just saw it at the Marsh in SF. We are lucky he's here.
That FELA's "Kalakuta Show" background music to this piece brought back nostalgia from watching Fela perform it live in the '70s at The Africa Shrine before he recorded it. Very powerful horn line!

I am just back from the performance and loved it! The video does very little justice to seeing it live.

This was one of the best piece of art I have seen live- if you ever get a chance go see the show! Dan HOyle is amazing.

The script can be found, in its entirety, in the June/July 2008 issue of Theatre Bay Area magazine.
