Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Pumping Unit by Lufkin Industries. This is a Mark II 640D pump jack running on an electric motor. Every year they set up a new Mark II pump jack for the Christmas holiday season and sell the unit after the new year to a customer. There are more than 7,000 lights covering the unit which are lit up every night. Behind the pumping unit is Santa on his sleigh, which is actually a decorated Lufkin trailer.
The attraction is set up in the parking lot of the Lufkin Mall in Lufkin, Texas. 12/28/2008

I don't understand why they run it the wrong direction either.

if the motor is a dual roation, it's probably got the motor running in the wrong direction, unless i'm wrong

The motor is dual rotation, but the Mark II pumping units are only designed to run the other way due to the geometry. Maybe since there isn't a load on it, it won't mess up the gearbox.

I was trying to figure that one out too. When I was up close, I could not tell a difference. Maybe the counter weights are made out of plastic. Looked very real!
