13.07.1985, London (Wembley Stadium), England

Most of top artists of that time were present at this mega-famous festival and Queen of course had to be there. Each artist got from ten to twenty minutes for their show; no playback or soundcheck were allowed. Queen hesitated because playing without a soundcheck is always a risk. But then they accepted the rules and their 20 minutes of fame came on at 18:44 GMT.
Queen were on top form and not only according to Bob Geldof and Elton John, they stole the show. They played only the intro to Bohemian Rhapsody (the opera part couldn't be played from the tape as playback was forbidden & there wasn't enough time anyway). Instead of the opera part, Radio Ga Ga followed. We Will Rock You was reduced to the first verse (and the final guitar solo) only. Is This The World We Created was performed by Freddie and Brian only later in the evening.

  • Everyone else at Live Aid at Wembley played as if it was just practising in the garage. Queen and Freddie played as if their very lives depended on it and as a result there is only one standout performance in the entire concert. This part of the performance stands out even more for me as a testament to Freddie's ability to play the crowd like no one else. What a giant, what a genius. What a man.

  • Right at 5:34, Freddie finally gets tired of Bono's crap and cuts in, and you can IMMEDIATELY hear him, and you can just feel his voice....damn he was powerful.

  • Wow are these other artists joking? The only person who sounds remotely good is George Michael. Just give the mic back to Freddie and go home. K thanks bye.

  • @zapkvr and to think prior to this & right up to when they walked on stage, the band were on the ropes; sales were going downhill & the band were infighting as a result, they were about to split up. Then this televised performance launched them back to the top, their lives probably depended on it, or the built up frustration & angst from infighting expressed itself in probably the best performance from a rock band ever caught on film...

  • He´s the better for me : )

  • @zapkvr .... i couldn't have phrased your description better. So True. Even the legendary "McCartney" was rubbish. Speaks volumes. Queen are quite possibly, the most vastly underated British band of the 20th century..... x

  • that is just way too much epicness on one stage. surreal.

  • meciiiiii vraiment !^^

    merveilleux

  • @minimaxrock i really agree again, sorry listening and got angry bout it
