You could use something else, I guess similarly to using something else to brush your teeth other than your tooth brush. These are ceramic pots which do not dispel any potentially toxic material like would plastic or other type of containers. I guess you need to judge for yourself. I've used it for many years and I also believe in alternative medicine so I'm always in the look out for safer alternatives.
