This cartoon was made for a surrealism class as my final. In other words, if you don't get this, it's probably doing it's job. I made a lot of effort to make it look and feel as much like a surrealist film from the 1920's, right down to the art deco-esque fonts, grainy film, awkward cuts and authentic music.
The biggest influences on this were Salvador Dali's "Un Chien Andalou" and my own previous attempt at this style, "The Death of Mini Rasputin". This serves as a spiritual successor to my previous Rasputin flash that nobody saw. All in all, this is a parody, but serves well enough as an honest jab at the surrealism game. In case you were wondering, yes, the music was heard in "The People's Mario". That's where I heard it and figured it would fit perfectly with my surrealist vision.
I wrote this during a surrealism class and animated it over the course of a few hours. As a result, it's rather short, like a lot of the flashes I've been making lately. I promise I'll get back to the big epic length ones before too long. It's just more relaxing to make short films.
