You left out the Predecessor to what people call "Christmas" this ancient Northern European tradition was called Jol which translates to Yule. Tree's, Toasting, Hams, Gift giving you name it was and still is a tradition that sprang fourth out of the ethnic pool of traditions of Northern Europe, the peoples whom were most effected by the Winter Solstice, lest we forget those mighty forefathers and foremothers, the heathens, the Vikings.
