One of the most stirring poems.After all America is a nation of immigrants.If you think about even the American Indian came from Asia at one time.

@doltbezoar ...Baby, you are so very, very wrong. If the initial invasion was cool, so is the current one, as well as our children's exodus into Canada when polar melt opens the fabled Northwest Passage and the continental economic center shifts north along with the primary shipping lanes. If you're alive to see it, you'll be singing from a different hymnal then!

People have to stop calling the first and founding citizens, "illegals." They were just immigrants like any country that is forming. But once the country is formed--creates a government and LAWS--those laws of the country must be followed. Therefore, it is only those invaders now who come to the USA ILLEGALLY, who are the illegal aliens. Those who came before the establishment of our laws, were lucky but are legal.

A very nice presentation, but there's an error. The last line of the poem is, "I lift my lamp", not "light", "beside the golden door."

You do realize that without immigrants, this country would not exist...This country was founded and built by "immigrants". And this poem is engraved on the Statue of Liberty, by the way. To sum it up: All are Welcome!

Legal immigrants are not illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration is a crime. Obama getting illegals to vote is also troubling.

Hey, this country (especially New York City) was built by "illegal immigrants". George Washington and our founding fathers were illegal immigrants. I'm a white guy living in NYC for 8 years now from Louisiana. Stop dumping political garbage on what is something that is actually engraved on the Statue of Liberty, which was placed in this country (thanks France!) way before Obama.
