Great tutorial!!!
I did what you said and it almost worked. The problem is the original theme was centered on the page and when I activate the child theme, the page sits on the left side of my computer screen. Any ideas on what I might have messed up?
Also, would there be anything wrong with copying all the files over from the original theme to the child theme. I'm not quite sure why you just copy the style.css file?
Thank you!!!
Julie :)

Great video. I have a question though. What's the best filezilla download for my site hosted by host gator. Should i download the filezilla client or the server?

@rmaltrmalt22 Could you please explain to me what you mean about someone forgetting a line? Is there something in the video that was left out? Thanks

Thank you so much for this! I thought this was complicated and couldn't find anything to suggest it wasn't after hours of searching. Great explanation in plain English and simple steps - perfect!

had to include @import url("../theme/syle.css") in child css for it to work.

Nice description, thank you!
Thanks for the clear vid. My question is this: When using a child theme as a preferred method for upgrading a premium theme, which gets upgraded? the child or the parent? (and, I hope I can figure out how to do that)
TIA,

@xdoctorEQx you just update the premium theme. Then your modifications are in a separate directory - the child theme directory and will not be overwritten. Depending on what was changed in the parent theme, you may have to update your mods, but usually not. And at least you won't lose them, like you would if you modified the parent theme directly.

Hello, I tried to create a new folder, but it wouldn't let me. I followed all of your steps until I got to the part about making the new folder. Any suggestions? I'm using windows. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Thank you!

Hi @roadlesswandering - you need to make the new folder on your hosting provider where WordPress is installed using FTP, not on your PC or Mac. Which hosting provider are you using? Some of them have a nice file manager you can use instead of FTP.
