Emma Speegle (lane 3) pulls a Zenyatta to win the 100 meter freestyle event at the the South County Holiday Classic 2010. Sports commentators and enthusiasts are comparing this victory to the Beijing Olympics when Michael Phelps won his seventh Olympic Gold Medal in the 100-meter butterfly. Phelps actually wasn't in first place for the whole race. Milorad Cavic was actually ahead of him. But then, at the last second, Phelps somehow took the gold. Milorad was coasting in to the finish, with his arms outstretched and he was just about to touch the wall. However, Michael Phelps took his last stroke, and his arms came up over top and he touched the wall first. It was an exciting Olympic moment to witness.
To anyone watching this event, it was a very close call. The swimmer from South County seemed certain to win, until that last second. Emma came from a good bit behind with some incredible power strokes that allowed her to close to the finish first.
Way to go, Emma!
