((cont.))- anything. Instead, do LOTS of changes of directions. I have used this myself on a horse that has a lot of "go" and by doing this particular exercise, the changes of direction gets the horse really tuned into you and using the thinking side of their brain instead of the reactive side.

You said that this mare is kind of funny about her head, right? The last thing you should do is move slowly. That's considered predatorial and is just going to make the horse more spooky, so move deliberately, and if she doesn't like something, keep doing it until she stands there and relaxes (blinks her eyes, licks her lips, cocks a hind leg, lowering the head & neck, and taking a big breath or sighing). Also, when lunging, don't just send her around and around. That's not going to accomplish-
