This video for "Freedom" was shot in Los Angeles in August of 1994, in support of the "Freedom" MAXI CD (and the Direction of Correctness LP-CD), released by East-West/Warner Bros. It was directed by some schmuck that didn't listen to anything the band had to say, or even the lyrics of the song for that matter. The whole reason we flew to L.A. was to capture the grit of jammed freeways and smog, not hang out in a warehouse and shoot a neutered video of ourselves. I don't have an explanation for what I'm doing in the tub, or what Al is doing hanging from the ceiling (at least his part was cool enough to require the presence of a licensed stunt coordinator), or what either of us are doing chained to the sink. Looking back on it all... we were kids, and we were inexperienced enough to believe the people around us that were telling us "it'll look cool when it's done being edited..." Yeah right. All of the things we directed to have filmed (12 lane freeways, homeless people, pollution, litter...) got lost in the shuffle, and this is what got handed to us 4-5 weeks later. We demanded a re-edit and it never happened. On a positive note, our "K-Town" tag on the wall behind us (the bridge part, shot against a red wall) made the final cut. Words to the wise--- if you're going to shoot a crappy video, at least let the hometown fans know that you're thinking of them. So... this is it, the "Freedom" video as it appeared on MTV's 120 Minutes, in 1994...
Lyrics: Allen Wright;
Music: Herv Meyszner, Ulrich Franke;
Line-up at the time: Shane and Al (vocals), Herv (guitar), Rog (guitar), Uli (keys), Nico (drums)
120 mins must be the only show to ever show this - I have the exact same shitty recording on a worn out tape :D
Thanks for posting

yeah Headbanger's Ball aired it too but that's about it. Most "alternative" videos from this era never made it past 120 mins and Headbanger's Ball unless the record company shelled out SERIOUS money. To be honest... it's not a very good video and I'm surprised MTV aired it at all... :)

sure I understand, I'm goign through that right now. One tape with a concert from 1994 has been completely erased. I think it sat next to something magnetic. SCHEISSE!!!!!

On TV, i saw a report about some crossover-festival in berlin ... i don´t know how many years ago. They showed livescenes and interviews. In the interviewsequences they showed parts of musicvideos of the band (headcrash, Thumb, Gunjah, Phase V, ...) that´s interviewed. I remember seeing 10 - 12 seconds of freedom and i was stunned. "This is great ! I have to get some albums !" hahaha.
I wonder if i still have that videotape. It increased the Number of Bands which i´m listening to.

yes I rememeber that concert from Berlin. I am going to see if I have some clips of it. Do you think you still have that video tape? I would pay shipping cost if you do, I could then transfer it and put it up on youtube with the highest quality...
