  • I need to let my son on the PC maybe it will help him communicate with us better. How did u teach him to play on the PC?Can you give me any suggestions?

  • @MsGena81 Hello! So nice to hear from you! It took a while for him to learn. I finally found a learning game with Dora. It had to be something he was interested in. I put my hand over his to move the mouse. He would take my hand off. We did this until he wanted to stop, every day. Lots of very short tries. He did not like my hand on his. One day I he was frustrated and so was I. I said, then you do it. He tried for a bit and started bringing me back and he put my hand his.

  • @MsGena81 At that point I knew he wanted it! It's all about finding a learning game with something they are interested in. I didn't want him to hate it. So I stopped when he let me know it was time. I started do this after seeing a movie about a girl named Susie. Her mom said she worked with her for a period of time every day. Contact me anytime! I would love to know how your child does with it!

  • My son is an older now, and less functional due to autism complicated by seizures and self injury, but I see your son likes to chew as my son does. We have a really great chew tubing we bought on line that comes in rolls in a box they ship to your house. There are different levels, as in level 1-5 (5 being strongest for the stronger biters..) What a great mom U are!

  • kgaccount, thank you for your reply and advice. I started giving him a wet cloth because he grinded his teeth so badly! He rarely uses one anymore. He now loves beads and spinning them and wraping and unwraping them around his hand. He was and is eaisier to teach while stimming. I will be buying the chew tubes you suggested. Thank you!

  • My grandson is 3 and severly autistic. He has a few words but mostly 'phrases' he uses for everything. He is a wizz on the computer though! He loves the games like Dora and Bob the builder. I know there is a very smart little boy in there and one day I hope we can help him find his way out.

  • @PinkPixie74 Jordan is nine now and carries beads. Not chewing anymore, I thought I'd never be able to say that! Jordan was in pre-school at that time. I was told he wasn't ready to work on the computer. But we took the summer to work on it. It didn't happen over night. I had to find a video he was interested in. Once he got the mouse it was down hill from there!

  • @kgaccount Thanks for the tip! I'll have to get some!

  • @RCMasterification

Eye contact is still really hard for him. Jordan is now eight on his way to nine! Jordan gets along great with other people if they don't look straight at him or try to touch him without him letting them know touching is okay. He loves to swim and be chased around the yard. He still likes the trampoline. He likes everyone to get on it with him and follow what he does. He doesn't have a friend like the other children. I'm praying for one to come for him soon.

  • Awesome :)

  • @RCMasterification New people are hard for him because he doesn't know what to expect. He doesn't like crowds, even in his own home. If he knows you he will lead you to play with him when he's ready.

  • @conduirty How old is your son in this video? my stepson is nonverbal autistic , 8 years old. He has VERY limited interest in anything. I will be trying your method for using the computer. My stepson IS a fan of Dora so I will look for her to help us a bit. lol Thanks for posting this video. I love to see hope in action!

  • He has eye contact. Does he go along well with other people?

  • I linked my youtube with Google and now I can't get back in! I'm using my husbands account to check my videos and comments. Please forgive me if I don't get back to you right away because I can't see my messages.
