    at 1:17, you say a geostationary orbit is essential for satellites... so is Iridium not a communications network, or do you mind television & radio as communication...

    the all global positioning systems, namely GLONASS, GPS and recently starting Galileo are non-eqatorial, as they are neither geosyncronous nor without inclination!
