A quick video of the Otis elevators at the Downtown Montreal Department Store La Baie (The Bay). This was just a short visit since it was late in the afternoon on a Sunday, and the store was closing in a few minutes. I will go back and take more time looking at the fixtures, and stop at a few floors. And show you the amazing floor leveling on one of the other elevators I rode on earlier that the doors opened while the elevator was about 2 feet from the floor but stopped into it's Classic Otis Leveling just in time. I had a bad accident a few months back and haven't been able to explore any elevators, so this will be my first elevator video this year.

  • someone loves his elevators

  • @studyphp Mostly just the old ones, they are all so unique and stylish. The new ones all seem to look the same.

  • @MysticMTL I agree. Is there a reason why they all look alike?

  • @studyphp There were practically dozens of elevator companies years ago, and a handful of really good ones, and those are the models that stood out. Like Otis. However, most building owners think that they look too old now, so they're trying to "spruce" them up. Now there are only 3 or 4 companies out there that refurbish the old elevators, and that's why they all look just about the same now.

  • Very nice elevators. I wanted to film these but they were always too busy.

  • @myotismon767 I have a bunch of retakes, and the best I could get was a solo ride up, but a loud kid riding back down. I'll go back and hopefully get a solo ride next time. I remember they used to have a control panel outside on the 1st floor, not sure if it still works though.

  • @g4tech It appears that they modernized some of them to be push buttons, but those still work both ways, you can hover your finger over the button and it works, or you can push down the button and it works too!

  • @Balarick RC is Rez-de-Chaussee which translates to the Ground Floor, and SS is Sous-Sol which translates to Basement. Some of the buttons I could push down on, but I didn't need to, I just hovered my finger over the button and it lit up. The directory was useful since it shows what floor has the restaurants, and washrooms and what is sold on each floor. I'll try to get a closer up view of those indicators when I go back.

  • those fixtures/buttons are nice. directory above the doors looks helpful. neat elevator. what are RC and SS?

  • neat elevator. what are RC and SS?
